VP Real Estate


This is a Full-time position in Vacaville, CA posted June 9, 2021.

Primary Objectives:

  • Plans, directs and implements the strategic direction of the real estate lending division. Defines all aspects of real estate sales, products and services, channels and infrastructure required to ensure success and profitable growth of consumer real estate loans, while ensuring alignment with TCU’s mission, vision and business unit growth objectives.
  • Partners with management team to oversee all secondary market activities, including loan sales, investor servicing and mortgage servicing asset valuation.
  • Leads, coaches and develops the division management team in creating and maintaining an environment focused on a member centric advocacy and service culture that promotes continuous development and retention of high-caliber employees.
  • Anticipates the needs of our membership, and has a passion toward maintaining a forward-thinking mindset with the ability to evolve and drive growth in our mortgage lending area.
  • Oversees division lending policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations, as well as mitigates risk.

Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports directly to the SVP, Chief Lending Officer.
  • Overall management responsibility for the Real Estate staff.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Through effective leadership, owns, evolves and continuously improves the credit union’s real estate lending division. Defines the strategic priorities and division initiatives to deliver real estate products, channels, and infrastructure required to ensure success, loan growth and profitability. Focuses on the member experience from proactive needs identification through to post fulfillment to attain their financial goals and ensures alignment with our mission and vision.
  • Proactively identifies, assesses and manages ongoing product, investor, digital and member service opportunities that continue to add value to members. Effectively leads the strategic initiatives for the secondary market activities, including loan sales, investor servicing and mortgage servicing asset valuation.
  • Provides strong, team-oriented and visible leadership which fosters positive attitudes and trust amongst employees and members. Ensures the real estate division maintains the highest level of service excellence, professionalism and integrity. Recruits, coaches and professionally develops direct reports and employees in the areas of succession planning, technical skill depth, member focused and relationship sales management to ensure appropriate bench strength, leadership and organization culture.
  • Drives the team to meet and exceed division goals and objectives by creating and holding them accountable to performance expectations. Identifies gaps and innovates/adjusts as needs arise.
  • Participates in the credit union’s product, pricing and production decision making through the ALCO meetings. Responsible for the division’s overall credit quality and actively managing credit risk through sophisticated credit risk analytics, sound internal controls and operating procedures, and solid underwriting practices. Analyzes lending and services product mix, rates and terms in relation to market and profitability, and recommends changes as needed.
  • Monitors competitive environment activities and stays updated on emerging consumer real estate sales and operational best practices/trends, technologies, and products and services. Focuses on the long-term direction of the division and positions the credit union as a leading consumer real estate lender in the communities we serve. Ensures compliance and maximum efficiency in implementing and maintaining policies and procedures.
  • Completes, understands and utilizes analytics to review and forecast department, product, and various other metric successes. Evaluates the impact and status of various initiatives.
  • Maintains strong internal control environment to stay current on applicable state or federal lending laws and regulations, safeguards assets, manages and adheres to established policies, processes and fraud prevention.
  • Partners with others key areas of the organization including those who oversee retail, online and the mobile channels to continue to grow this valuable product line. Participates in cross-functional project teams to achieve business goals.
  • Prepares and manages the division budget and overall business and financial performance.
  • Ensures effective management of member, vendor and third party relationships, including auditors and examiners to ensure the satisfactory achievement of audit cycles and third-party service level agreements.
  • Attends board meetings, reports on areas of responsibility and actively participates in the organizational short-and long-term strategic planning and goal setting. Participates in civic, realtor and community activities to enhance the credit union’s image and visibility, as well as reinforce the credit union’s commitment to the communities we serve.


  • BA/BS in Business or related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in real estate lending for a similar sized financial institution.
  • Minimum 5 years senior management experience.
  • Proven record of creativity and ingenuity through past experience by leading efforts such as product innovation and significant mortgage loan growth.
  • Prior credit union experience preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • PC skills to include Microsoft Office.
  • Growth minded individual, with a thorough understanding of lending strategies and metrics.
  • Thorough knowledge of real estate lending, investor development and loan sales, underwriting, secondary marketing, relationship management, credit analysis, pricing models, and concentration/portfolio management.
  • Knowledge of overall lending operations, products and services and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with all levels of credit union staff, members, community, and regulatory agency representatives.
  • Experience in leadership, performance management, and staff development for career enhancement where applicable.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to successfully tailor communications according to the audience. Ability to prepare and effectively facilitate presentations.
  • Effective, professional verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Ability to professionally interact with all levels of staff. Good negotiation skills and experience.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and effectively lead teams to successfully accomplish goals.
