Schedules all surgery procedures; gives accurate start times to physicians and physicians’ offices; verifies insurance company and authorization number; maintains effective, ongoing communication with physicians’ offices, other departments and co-workers; assists with other department responsibilities as assigned.

  • Schedules all surgery procedures; gives accurate start times to physicians and physicians’ offices; verifies insurance company and authorization number; maintains effective, ongoing communication with physicians’ offices, other departments and co-workers; assists with other department responsibilities as assigned.
  • Schedule surgeries/ procedures requested by physician or other departments.
  • Communicates effectively with physician, his staff or other departments. Follows procedure to secure available date, day and time for surgery/procedure to be performed.
  • Communicates availability and determines if this time is suitable for the physician and his patient.
  • Acquires all pertinent information schedule surgery/procedure.
  • Enters all information into computer.
  • Ensures the appointment time and arrival time is clear to calling party.
  • Advises the calling party to relate all information to the patient regarding arrival time, preparation information in relation to a patient’s visit.
  • Request authorization number.
  • Obtains diagnosis information relating to specific surgery/procedure.
  • Determine available time.
  • Prints the scheduling form.
  • Blocks a time slot as soon as it has been selected for an appointment; follows procedures to ensure no double bookings.
  • Keeps current with any changes pertaining to the department by means of communication directly from the director or from information coming directly from an alternate.
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology required
  • Excellent telephone communication skills required
  • Basic computer skills
