Concrete Finisher & Maintenance Worker IIISalary: $38,973.00 – $47,498.00 AnnuallyTo perform journey worker level in concrete maintenance and construction work using tools and various gasoline or diesel powered equipment.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDDirection is provided by the Assistant Road Superintendent or higher level department management. Functional or lead supervision is provided by a Concrete Finisher and Maintenance Worker IV.Typical DutiesMay lead and will participate in all phases of new and repair of concrete including (ADA ramps, sidewalks, curbs & gutter, etc.) but not limited to, setting forms, mixing concrete, wheeling and pouring concrete, screeding concrete to a level plane and troweling, grooving and edging the surface, and installing truncated domes.Conduct measurements and calculate concrete quantities for sidewalks, curb & gutters, ramps, retaining walls, and other concrete construction repair jobs.Interpret verbal and written order and drawings.Assist in making field repairs and adjustments of equipmentOperate a variety of construction and maintenance equipment on an intermittent or regular basis depending on work projects and locations.Do routine service work on an assigned piece of equipment; make minor adjustments and repairs.Act occasionally as supervisor over small crews.May be responsible for the repair and maintenance of assigned work.Keep simple time, material and equipment maintenance records.Follow safety rules and regulations.Answer or properly refer questions from the public.Assist with training new employees.Essential job duties may be assigned that are not listed above but are relative to this job classification.(Reasonable accommodation will be made when requested and determined by the County to be appropriate under applicable law.)Employment StandardsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMinimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license which are required and equivalent to the following.Knowledge of:* Proper use of concrete, hand and power tools.* Basic math sufficient to keep time and service records, concrete practices, mixtures, and their elementary properties.* ADA accessibility requirements for concrete work.* Operating characteristics of heavy gasoline and diesel powered equipment.* Operating procedures, materials and safety measures encountered in concrete work and road maintenance.* Equipment service requirements.Skill/Ability to:* Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers.* Operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment.* Perform a variety of construction work by reading blueprints to layout, stake, set forms, place, finish and repair concrete.* Operate one or more pieces of construction equipment.* Service equipment and make minor repairs.* Follow verbal and written direction.* Evaluate problems and take proper steps to correct them.* Maintain and keep daily records.* Organize work in step-by-step order.* Work cooperatively with other operators, maintenance personnel, and the public.Education:* Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.Experience:* Two (2) years of journey- level experience in concrete work and the knowledge and understanding of concrete placement for flat work, curb, and gutter installations including grade checking, form placement, concrete, calculations and finishing. In addition, this position requires a general knowledge, understanding and the operation of equipment relevant to road maintenance work.* Three (3) years in the operation of a variety of heavy equipment in construction including servicing equipment, reading work orders and keeping operation records.License or Certificate:* Attain a Class A drivers license with no restrictions and a tanker endorsement two (2) weeks prior to the expiration of the one – year probationary period.
