This is a Contract position in Santa Ana, CA posted April 22, 2020.

SQL DBA Santa Ana CA 92705 DUTIES Database administration and SQL services infrastructure support for the Microsoft SQL databases in both high-availability and non-high-availability modes supporting various County wide applications.

Install, create, configure and maintain database system software to support the normal business operation of County applications.

Plan and execute SQL software updates as needed to ensure SQL services environment and associated software components are at current Microsoft release levels.

Perform system related database administration tasks like database version and OS upgrades, cloning, point-in-time restores, and data refreshes across multiple environments.

Define and implement database backup and recovery procedures, including designing database backup policies, retention periods and schedules.

Configure and support tools for continuous monitoring of the database systems.

Set up automated controls to proactively identify and remediate bottlenecks (e.g., locking conflicts, latch contention, resource usage) for all SQL instances.

Provide managed service support in data center setting (24 7) that includes monitoring, problem detection, ticket resolution, escalation of issues and meeting Service Level Agreements.

Design, implement and maintain security controls for the database including user access, profiles, grant of privileges and encryption of data.

Perform and schedule patching to keep the database security up-to-date.

Tune databases for optimal performance including analyzing workload reports, query optimization, implementing proper indexes and database parameters.

Proactively identify and remediate database issues like storage allocation, database files management, and capacity planning.

Assist in database development to maintain and upgrade the customer application including schema level changes, data migration and load testing.

Provide subject matter expertise to County application development team.

Perform disaster recovery exercise for databases using replication and data restores from SAN.

Interface effectively with vendors for technical support.

REQUIRED SKILLS Two or more years supporting Microsoft SQL Server (2000, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017) in Microsoft Windows 2003, 2008, 2012 and 2016, including Microsoft Windows cluster environment.

Two or more years building, configuring, optimizing and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server service environment.

Two or more years supporting Log Shipping, Replication, SSIS and SSRS Experience in using SQL Profiler Experience in Windows scripting (DOS, PowerShell) Experience in SQL Monitoring sw tools, such as SolarWinds DPA DESIRED SKILLS Two or more years working in a Managed IT Services environment with familiarity of ServiceNow for IncidentProblemChange management OTHER Communication skills Interface with the agency developers to define requirements and provide recommendations for database and tools.

Communicate with technical support areas like Windows and Storage administrators to define requirements and standards for databases.

Analytical skills Ability to troubleshoot issues and implement solutions.

Identify and evaluate database tools and methodologies.

Ability to establish effective database performancesecurity monitoring procedures.

Respond quickly and proficiently to customer service requests.

Broad technical expertise Functional understanding in different application architectures involving middleware components like Web Servers, IIS, FTP, ASP, .NET, ODBC, JDBC Exposure to data integration tools and techniques from multiple sources like Oracle and DB2.
