Position Summary:

The Director of Mechanical Engineering will direct, guide, and measure the activities of the R&D mechanical engineering function.

Manages and analyzes the testing and feasibility studies of mechanical designs, instruments, subassemblies, and system level assemblies for new and existing products.

Directs the introduction of design changes to the manufacturing and operations organization.

Evaluates final results of mechanical design and test to assure accomplishment of technical objectives.

Ensures that proper documentation, such as test specifications and procedures, is provided to the appropriate functional area.

Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Functional Description:

Directs and guides the activities of a mechanical systems and equipment design function.

Manages and analyzes the testing and feasibility studies of mechanical products, instruments, subassemblies, and packaging for new and existing products.

Directs the introduction of design changes to the manufacturing and drafting organizations.

Evaluates final results of mechanical design and test to assure accomplishment of technical objectives.

Ensures that proper documentation, such as test specifications and procedures, is provided to the appropriate functional area.
Implements the appropriate level of engineering process, rigor, and cross functional review within the mechanical engineering team Ensures department budgets, schedules, and performance requirements are met Oversees delivery of mechanical engineering projects while supporting a unified culture, vision and strategy for the mechanical engineering team Assures that individual and team goals are developed and measured for each team member Analyzes research data and proposed mechanical product specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal Maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant engineering technology standards Coordinates and communicates with other functional leaders on product roadmap, feature sets, and partnership opportunities Responsible for ensuring that department is committed to and conforms to the company quality system procedures as documented
Required Qualifications:
Results-oriented, self-disciplined, fast-paced, motivated individual that requires minimal supervision and able to multitask several projects at one time Ability to deal with ambiguity – ready and able to effectively and efficiently change plans quickly to meet the changing needs of the business and projects Highly collaborative and desire to reach across the organization to understand needs and how to meet those needs.

Proven ability solving complex problems, with the ability to get to true problem that needs to be solved and foresee problems and proactively mitigate before they happen Ability to ruthlessly prioritize own active and teams to ensure spending time on the critical few priorities that are most important to the organization Track record of recruiting exceptional talent, building high performing teams to include managing, mentoring and motivating employees Strong Communication (oral/written) to included strong presentation skills, including ability to communicate in small and large settings and at all levels in the organization, including senior level management Demonstrated ability to process complex information and summarize it concisely in writing and/or verbally in a professional manner Computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite
– Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat Pro
Preferred Qualifications:
3+ years of industry experience preferably in the diabetes and medical device Proven track record of commercially released electro-mechanical consumer and/or medical products Experience developing products requiring clinical validations and regulatory compliance Experience developing products and processes for large scale (multi-million per year) production
Experience and Education Requirements:
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree (Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical) with 15+ years of industry experience.

9+ years of successful management experience in relevant industry.
